American forces take over command of Detroit.
|1802||(May) Detroit holds its first election|
Detroit is incorporated as a town.
A fire begins in John Harvey's barn. All but one of the town's 300 buildings are destroyed.
|1829||John R. Williams, Andrew Mack, and (Joseph?) Campau buy the Oakland Chronicle and moved it to Detroit. The newspaper later merges with another to become the Detroit Gazette and the the Democratic Free Press -- a precursor to the Detroit Free Press.|
The Madame Cadillac Tablet is unveiled at the Detroit Museum of Art as a monument to the first non-native women in the area.
